The problem theyre running into is combining names and accounts from the two servers. This was also one of the "teased" upcoming diablo news from a diablo 3 community manager in hopes to get people excited about the games they have upcoming. My uncle didnt want to share any info on what games are upcoming besides that.

He said the PVM vanilla teen crying about bots and not getting rich off shakos and hotspurs have caused them to intentionally break the game so they can pull the servers offline.

Blizzard is mad that D2 is still popular because they can't make a better game

So they implement a change that targets the oldest, hardcore fan base of D2 making it harder for them to play the way they're used to

They figure these D2 addicts will be willing to pay up for new keys or quit the game. Either way Blizzard wins, they work towards their goal of pushing people towards their new games.
