I filed a ticket and included pictures of my cases with the keys and the date. This is the response I got.

"Hey there, Katie.

My name is Gordon and I am a Supervisor at Blizzard Entertainment. Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about your problem with the CD keys, I know it can be frustrating for sure.

I took a look and it appears that these keys where claimed to another battle.net account about 10 years ago in 2008. Diablo has been around for a long time now, so these keys can have been re-sold, traded, gifted, etc. There just isn't a way to determine an original owner in that sense. So we are left to look at where was the 16 digit key claimed to a battle.net account and converted into a 26 digit key. This is the case here, the code was claimed quite awhile ago to another account and the name on that account does not match this one.

We have no way to transfer these keys either, so your best bet is going to be to purchase a new key and claim them to your battle.net account to ensure you don't run into problems again down the road."

So if your someone trying to go this route don't waste your time. Figured I'd give it a shot and let everyone know.

What bS they're pulling..."purchase a new key" after the recent updates that pretty much killed d2... cause they know some don't wanna lose their chars and will pay to get em back..

so they're actually scamming, trying to make people buy their product twice!

The current retail boxes are all 24 digit keys and only get registered, not converted, on Blizzard.com.
However older boxes can contain 16 digit keys and look the same as newer boxes depending on your country.
Seperate boxes of Diablo 2 and Lord of Destruction should always be 16 digits. They stopped producing them before 2008 when Blizzard enabled online key registration.

Also I highly doubt they will give you back your key even if you send them screenshots of your retail cd-keys. You could've sold them years ago.
Edit: Nevermind. I'm retarded and didn't see that's exactly what OP did.

They want to kill the second hand market. They can't sell their $20 keysets when you can get used once for $4 each.
You must believe in the tooth fairy to think this was to stop botters or some other crazy idea.

Stops them for a time.
They'll just have to buy mass legit keys and register on bnet using 100's of fake addresses.

I would assume blizzard could now ban these tho with ipchecks when accounts are created to do this (i.e. 100 new registers all from same ip = better and just blacklist the IP)

Again, they'll find a way around that quite easily.. lol

Slows em down , doesnt really hurt them except financially in the short term
