yes I think that was It, I've got couple of replies from support and in the last one they showed a email very similar to mine that was registered back in 2010 so perhaps its an email I made just for d2 that I can't recall

I might look stupid now, but when u install the game, it ask for a 16 digit cd-key.
How to put in 26 digits when installing from the cds?

They DID NOT disable 16 character keys. My 16 character keys work fine. Please stop spreading misinformation.

Okay, Here is what is happening and how to fix it.

1. If your startup shows key claimed battlenet then somebody else has registered your 16 digit key code. (This happened on all three of my keys).
2. If you have proof of purchase you can get a new key from blizzard. If you don't have proof then you are totally, 100% out of luck.
A. To get the key, make a JPG of your receipt.
B. Go to blizzard, classic games
C. Chose refund on trouble ticket
D. Chose chat (says 1 minute wait but it was like 10 minutes)
E. Explain that your keys have been stolen (claimed). Provide the key codes and upload the receipt.
F. Be nice. These guys did not screw you. The person who illegally registered your keys screwed you and Blizzard corporation is screwing you. The employee is not.
G. Good luck!
3. I had proof of purchase of one set (bought off ebay auction) so they gave me one set of keys.
4. I have the CD cases for two purchases but they said they would not give me keys for those. They said they need proof of purchase. Their logic is irrational since owning the CD cases seems to prove you obtained them. However I was not successful with that argument....or not with the person I spoke with.

Good luck and remember, be nice to the guy trying to help you. He did not steal your keys and he doesn't make the rules.

Alot of ppl who registered their keys are not able to log on and play anymore after. This is a bit discouraging

Why you need register and do procedures like this to play with a 20 years old game?!
This is serious?!
Not so many ppl play with this game and now many lost their access...
