We had the discussion some weeks ago. And there were really extensive calculations, and it turned out in 90+% of cases eschutas is actually the highest damage weapon in the game (apart from the super sweet magic/rare orb). Even factoring in -light res of all the gear and stuff. I did not believe it at first neither, because it basically gives nothing but skill and fcr, but the calculation was rather clean :)
For most people playing ladder, CMooN is better - we were theorycrafting based on damage output for a full glass cannon build using stuff like Ormus, JMoC, JAPoW, 2/20's etc. and with that gear available Eschuta's beats out CMooN.
But in response to the OP's query - no amount of gear is going to save you from a really nasty De Seis spawn - that is the only thing that will consistently kill your Sorc and needs to be dealt with through positioning.
