My friend & I are trying to play on our SP players together using the tcp/ip function, however we both keep getting the unable to join message. He's at my house, on my laptop, using my wifi

tcp;ip is pretty broken and I've always found it hard to make work without third party programs.

Download hamachi or evolve or some other program that will generate an IP and it works fine.

FYI
If one of you is using plugy and the other isn't, you cannot join each others games.

This. I used hamachi, and i've never had a problem.

so I downloaded hamachi, turned off our firewalls

still not working

you both have to use hamachi and be on the same IP, should work like a charm... me and my buddy played in a tcp/ip game on diablo 1 a few months back.. and on plugy .07 as well

If you want play in the same internet connection, use your local area IP.

CMD > write ipconfig > IP v4 Address > Normally starts with 192.168.xx.xx. One player host the game with this IP and the other one try join in the game with the same IP.

If both players have the same game version and mods, would it works.

Yeah, we both downloaded hamachi, I created the server, he joined, but we’re still getting hit with the “cannot join server” message :-/

Same ip, same versions etc

I know it’s annoying having to spoon-feed someone info, but I’ve tried everything suggested / & that I can think of, but nothing works. It’s frustrating. Again, I’ll gladly give fg if someone can help me figure it out

Correct. I logged into hamachi, created a network on hamachi, my friend joined said network on hamachi, then I hosted a tcp/ip game on Diablo, with the new ip created by hamachi, my buddy inputs the new ip address on Diablo = “cannot join server” message
