Never read the book

Saw the movie going in with a blank slate

Thought it was pretty good

A lot of things didn't make sense though... mainly
Year 2045 (27 years from now)

There's no way the world will have the network infrastructure in place to support such high bandwidth required for a MMO VR with that kind of realism

I'm thinking it'll have to be a minimum 16k resolution @ 120hz+

So unless we get fiber EVERYWHERE to replace all the copper cables we have that shit's not happening any time soon

Just watched it last night. As someone who hasn't read the book I think it was pretty good and entertaining.

27 years ago, the internet barely existed.

true. But that brings up another flaw in the movie. For a story set in 2045, it doesn't make sense to include a romantic subplot when all the men will have access to perfect, vr robot sex dolls to satisfy their needs.

The book covers that.

Suggesting that in 27 years, human interaction will be completely replaced by robots is ludicrous.

Kid buys the super high-end sex doll after getting dumped. He wastes weeks or maybe it was months, I'm not 100% sure, fucking it non-stop lol. Eventually he gets to how it doesn't help when the reality sets in that he's just fucking some weird machine irl while plugged into the net.



E: I also think it's silly to think this type of backbone would be impossible in 27 years. The two creators were more generous than any real life personas with that much cash. Who knows what could be accomplished if people that rich wasted their money on improving quality of a product for the common man.

That and it's fuckingi insane to think how far we've advanced in the past 27 years in tech. Who knows, there could be some new tech invented that makes fiber look like a joke.

I imagine seeing the movie without reading the book would make it better but if you've read the book first, it's crap.
