We've had a waste incinerating facility sewing the state, because it didn't keep their end of they deal in providing the agreed volume to burn/year. And there are still problems with recycling being more expensive than burning, and producing the new product from raw materials. Resulting in our garbage being sent to China in the recent past to be processed there and to Poland right now, where it sometimes meets the "garbage maffia". ^





Recycling does cost money, and with everybody helping out a bit it's being made cheaper. The real question is: how can we change the behavior of our citizens, to not only want to recycle more, but actually doing it as well
Ow and do we tackle smaller bottles thrown on the streets with pfand as well ?

To your point I think convenience is how we change behavior.
Personally I had never recycled in my life until I moved to a large city.
It would have taken me 40-50 minutes to drive to a recycling center growing up.
Now they come every week right to my door and all I have to do is throw it into a green or blue bin.
I know from working in different industries throughout my life that recycling on a residential level barely cuts down on waste at all. There is so much waste in industrial and medical sectors that residential waste of maybe two pounds a week per house doesn’t even make a small dent, it’s piss in a really large bucket.

So I can say that I don’t give a shit about the environment, I will never have children so I have no care about what happens to the world after I die, and even I will contribute to the cause as long as it’s convenient to do so.

We value our freedom too much here to be burdened by conservation.

They reduced our pickup days to 1 and gave us a trash and recycle bin. Pretty much forced everyone to recycle to not run out of room.
