well based on that video, i'd say you made the right call on the upgrades. CPU fan isnt working, so maybe a quick fix coulda been a new CPU fan to see if it'll cool the cpu to allow it to work if not fried. CPU's are really hard to kill, but it happens. Wouldn't make sense to buy a chip that fits that old motherboard, better off purchasing new ram, mobo, cpu.

Also that psu is an ultra LS 500w power supply, basically a no name chinese cheap junk (ShenZhen RuiSheng Yuan OEM), so yes i would replace it to any cheap seasonic bronze psu as it'll be a ton more reliable and safer. Especially if you plan on adding more components that adds more power to your system (ssd, new cpu, new gpu, etc.etc.)

i would not wanna put your new investments relying on an overrated 500w powersupply that barely pulls 336watts and isn't certified, but that's just me.

I really appreciate the feedback secksii (: new power supply it is

I clearly don't know computer parts well, can you tell what size that motherboard is? I just purchased an ATX, do you reckon I need to get a new case now too?

also u have a mATX board, but your case should be able to fit atx boards as well. Tho if you wanna upgrade to a new case with better airflow, this case is pretty good for the $$ atm. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075J6YSK2/?tag=pcpapi-20

wait so you think my case should fit it? it's a pretty big case

yeah it should, the gap between your GPU and power supply is the extra space the ATX sized motherboard will take up. The 4 bottom of those backings can be used, instead of just the very top 2 you used for your gpu.

I agree.

You might need to get some extra stand-off screws.

question for ya

Are we sure that the motherboard I just bought is compatible with those 2 8 gb ram sticks you suggested?

Would this 16gb one be a better bet? https://pcpartpicker.com/product/dDTrxr/corsair-vengeance-lpx-16gb-1-x-16gb-ddr4-2400-memory-cmk16gx4m1a2400c14

Yes they are compatible. Also G.Skill is tha shit!
Then will only be running in single channel. Always go two sticks for dual channel, double the bandwidth.
The one you linked to is only 2400Mhz, while the kit i picked is 3200Mhz.

Trust me, I've assembled and upgraded at least 50 systems. And helped with at least 500 builds online on various sites over the past 2 years.
