turning ur back and running away is not footwork. he wasnt trying to avoid the clinch, he literally ran away so nate couldnt punch him instead of trying to countering

the first pic doesnt even look like gustafson is pulling a conor loool. hes trying to avoid the takedown

its funny cuz u know that u would totally bash on any other fighter (like u always do) if they did the same thing conor did in the 2nd diaz fight. only reason u dont is cuz its conor ~

You guys are literally comparing apples to oranges. Obviously conor's boxing footwork is horrible and floyd's mma footwork would be horrible in comparison...

It is common to start moving away from the opponent to avoid getting hit, clinched, or taken down (mma) and yes it is considered footwork...

GSP is the best and most skilled MMA fighter

In terms of any sport, defining an athlete as “the best” can be a fool’s errand.

In basketball we hear the comparisons of Bird and Magic, Jordan and LeBron, et cetera. The same goes for MMA, especially due to the depth and complexity of the sport itself, from the different martial arts, techniques, weight classes and especially as UFC has only relatively recently adopted the USADA as their testing process, which still can be worked around (GSP Details Why It's Still 'Easy' To Use PEDs In UFC).

GSP’s game truly shined from his incredible BJJ talent, taught by a Gracie, and his eventual improved and refined striking by Freddie Roach, all of which combined with the tutelage of (arguably) the greatest MMA coach of all time, Firas Zahrabi.

With a career record of 26–2–0, with a penchant for a spectacular ground game, including many stoppages as well as a victory over one of the two men to defeat him, he is truly one of the greats. GSP has a Hall of Fame resume which includes an active 13 fight win streak as well as an incredible streak of over 2,200 days without a loss (with 9 title defenses), which was the 2nd longest such streak in UFC history.

His resume, incredible martial art discipline over a lifetime of practicing with passion, presents the case of being known as the greatest of all time (GOAT) but like in any sport, the time frame of the athlete’s dominance matters, and with wins over other Hall of Fame-caliber opponents, GSP certainly deserves to be known as the greatest of his generation, and perhaps the greatest welterweight ever, but the GOAT is a stretch. It is too hard to compare a fighter who fights at 135lbs to a fighter who is at 170lbs, to 205lbs, et cetera.

Statistically, St-Pierre certainly has a claim to that title.
His 90 takedowns landed are the most in UFC history, and his 73.8% takedown accuracy rate is the third-highest among all UFC fighters to ever attempt at least 20 takedowns.
He also ranks fourth in UFC history in most significant strikes landed, and first in total strikes landed, while his 73.1% striking defense rate is the third-highest of all time.
