maybe I am too late but I was surprised nobody talked about malazon book of the fallen by steven erikson. Epic and dark fantasy with well developped characters and emotions.

Mistborn by brandon sanderson. Different approach on magic system and a lot of plot twists. If you want to get a taste of his writing before you start the serie check out Elantris by him.

Demon cycle by peter v brett. Great uplifting story with great characters.

I am ordering the stormlight archive right away after reading what you said. ;)

I love the Harry potter series - read most of them the same day they were released, and have re-read about 4 times now.

For me LOTR, Song of ice and fire, and especially Wheel of Time were a bit too slow for my taste.

My personal favorites of all time (besides HP) are:

-The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie
-The Death Gate Cycle by Weis & Hickman
-Many of the early Magic: The Gathering block novels like the artifacts cycle/invasion/onslaught/kamigawa/ravnica
-Many of the early Dragonlance trilogies

Shades of magic was a great read too and is really easy to blast through. Black prism has been interesting so far too, but the series isn't finished yet so you'll have to wait if you get into it.

the best fantasy novel is by far "The Silmarillion" by J.R.R. Tolkien, in my view, it's classified as the only High Fantasy novel.

It has a standard of its own, it is a Legendarium. Like a collection of the history of Middle-Earth in the First Age.
