Hey guys. New to PoE. Completely new. Game reminds me of D2, which is how I have some fg. What is the main form of currency in this game? In D2 Forum gold is actually the main form now lol. But will I be able to get anything started with my 489?

Not a full character but you can get some nice starters that make leveling easier since you 1 shot everything


Well on second thought you might be able to get a full character... prices are probably low now.
But it will have to be on the cheaper side with a lot of room for improvement.

Main currency are chaos and exalts, anything that drops with brownish yellow text is currency (e.g. wisdom scrolls)

Like what can I get? Or should I wait till mid game and buy one really good item? Also I don't know what items are good aside from coloured ones. Ex. Staff with 3 sockets. Is that good? In D2 white items such as a Grand Matron Bow with 4 sockets is good, but is there anything like that in this game? Also what is the lvl cap?

Are you planning to follow a build? Why kind of character are you making?

Mmm nah not something like the grand matron, since there arent rune words there's no benefit to having 4sockets over 6. Max sockets are always better.
Theres a lot to learn, for now dont worry about that. You're probably so low level that everything dropping is worthless anyways, or aat least worth no more than a couple fg.
Because item level is low etc

I started with shadow and I think I am gonna make an essence drain char. So there is no combinations of gems to be like rune words? And what equipment should I be looking to get? Thanks for the help btw.

Id spend some fg and buy yourself like 20 chaos orbs

Tabula rasa has 6 linked white sockets and no level requirement so it's one of the best starter chests.
Build guides usually have a leveling section so read that carefully.

Pretty cheap. it has no stats cept 6 white linked sockets, can put any color gems in whites. Really good for learning what your favorite main skills are cause you can swap em out testing or w/e.

Get tabula, hat called goldrim for resists, couple Le He Up rings(think that's what they called, stats damage resist) and some run fast boots. You should blow thru the game. These items are useful on any character you level so keep them around for later.

Prob get tabula, hat, rings, boots for less than 50fg. If my computer was working I'd give a set to ya
