Does dying in PvP reduce durability on your items?

Okay, so if all I am doing is PvP with a certain itemset, I can use ethereal runewords and not worry about them dying on me?

You lose durability when certain attacks are directed at you

That includes all melee attacks except *maybe* smite, most physical projectiles, all melee summons/mercenaries and blade shield/sentinel. These same things also lower weapon durability when YOU do them besides blade sentinel/blade fury

They can lower durability on your armors even when you block or defend.

The only thing I'm not sure about is whether smite drops dura on shield or whether kicks lower durability on boots. I haven't built either for pvm in years

Smite uses weapon durability, Kicks don’t use durability at all.
