presumably we KNOW they aren't with their parents, because there is some sort of authentication to prove that, if the stats are to be believed.

so why cant this authentication take place with them together, THEN split them up if they arent related?

i'm confused by the "some/many of them aren't with parents, so we need to separate them all even the ones with parents".

honestly the only credible argument i see on the other side is "its too expensive", which i find callous but logical.

If you can produce an extremely reliable system, sure. Do they all carry birth certificates and IDs?
We don't know how accurate the data is for sure. If it is accurate and the ~15% of children that are actually with their families(assuming these families are what's best for the children ofc) then they should be in the same facilities. This seems to be what Trump is doing now.

Oh by the way, the horrifying photos of children in cages crying you see all over the news: Those are fake. Staged. Part of some protest from years ago. Kids went in there on their own volition and did it to make a point.
