Honestly I agree with making it more celebratory. If you want an honest story that dives into the issues of being gay, socially shy and a huge star in that time period then make a documentary and be honest and truthful. That just doesn't work well as a Hollywood production imo.

Also, Depp is just ass... He'd be a terrible Freddy. Guy hasn't done anything worth doing forever. Ass might be a little harsh, he's shown his talent plenty of his career, but the guy just does soooo many bad movies, it's hard to know which Depp will show up on any given project.
