I think there are other types of existences to the universe that we haven't been able to detect yet.
Science has only started to become advance the last 20-30 years, and really started to shoot of only in the latest years, with supercomputers and such tools.
We will find out what happens.
While i do agree that our perception of what consciousness is, is only a network of electrical impulses that transfer information from our sensory organs, i do believe that there are other sides to life, like the spiritual side, that we haven't been able to research properly yet, because we are still too busy fighting for survival.
Intelligent people are pushed to the side by stupid people. The more fanatical people you get (i.e. religious and one-track minded), the more kids they have, and the less they reflect about their existence.
Highly intelligent people often contemplate about the ethics of setting new children to the world, because they have the level of empathy it requires to see things globally. So they may decide not to have kids. Which is a shame, really.
A good quote i read a long time ago is: "The only thing required for evil to win, is for good people to do nothing". And that fits perfectly.
Although the world generally is getting to a better place for many, i actually think we need 1 more war to figure things out. There is too much evil in the world, still.
But what happens after death (the original question)? ^^ I believe our energy passes to another form of energy. Everything is interconnected somehow, i think. We use our brain at about a 15% conscious level, or something. Imagine if we could make use 100% of it!
