I recommend 2017+ civic hatchback.

Fiancé has had it for almost a year, she consistently averages 40 mpg, the pickup has greatly improved over previous generations and there’s plenty of space.

Hyundai and Kia are actually really good now!

I would say go for the Soul. Very reliable and very roomy!
