I remember back in the day, mid to late 2000s, when Ryan Howard was regarded as "The Prodigy". He was going to be the one to lead his comrades to victory over and over again.
He started living up to that hype; I remember that he seemed like the brightest star out there on a few occasions. The murmurs were that it was true - he, Ryan Howard, was indeed The Prodigy.
Knowing this, the higher ups were glad to give him a more prominent role than he was originally brought on for. They gave him big money and expected amazing things in return.
He went on to lead his fellow men to the promise land. Pennsylvania went crazy about what he was doing. The people there just could not get enough of him, and credited him with all of the success.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst shortly after The Prodigy seemed to be hitting his stride. He became overconfident and his hubris was ultimately his downfall.
Ryan Howard's story is one for the history books. You can have all of the talent in the world, but once you start being flashy and forgetting about the basics, you fall flat on your face.
Kids, don't be like Ryan Howard. That guy is a bum and undeservedly got all of the fame and awards. Practice the basics and you may one day be able to call yourself The Prodigy, too.
