I am making a plant box. To calculate cubic centimeters to find out how much soil i need, these are the measurements:

L = 90 cm
W = 30 cm
H = 20 cm

which results in = 90 x 30 x 20 = 54 000 cubic centimeters!!

This results in 540 cubic meters of soil, which would probably be enough to fill up this apartment with soil 100 times over.

What am i doing wrong? ^^ How much soil do i need?

The calculation is correct.

I know apartments tend to be smaller in Europe, but a simple 3m high x 5 meter long x 4 meter wide room is 60 cubic meters or 60,000,000 cubic centimeters.

If you buy soil by volume, you will need 0.054 cubic meters or ~70 kgs.

54k cubic centimeters don't translate to 540 cubic meter of soil (as this will fill the average apartment about two times).
Try translating to meters first: 0,9m, 0,3m and 0,2m.
Multiply those and you'll find that the answer is 0,054 (as per Chainsaw)
When you divide by 100 to go to meters, but are working in three dimensions, that's dividing by 100 to the third (100*100*100 = 1000000). 54000 divided by that comes down to 0.054 as well.

Thank you for the in-depth answer, that clarified the issue. But 0.054 cubic meters still sounds like a very small amount of soil ^^ It is not even 0.1 m3. But, all the better to me, so i save money on soil ^^ Growing herbs in the window. I'll upload a picture when done.

the pot is circle you need pi square multiplied by the W multiplied by the H multiplied by the L
