This is the pc I got couple years ago when I didn't have much money and needed something new to play on. Now I have more money I want to upgrade what I can (definitely the SSD).

I was hoping to keep the case if I could don't think I would need a new one but if I do please let me know why, I know next to nothing about computers.

Planned time until purchase: no specific time could be a day to a month or longer
Do you need an Operating System?: no
Do you have any specific preferred components?: no
Do you need a sound or wireless card?:
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: won't be overclocking
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: maybe a second monitor for watching movies / tv etc but not completely necessary depending how much the upgrades cost
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): Ontario

Willing to put 1000-1500 Canadian upgrades into it atm if I need to put in more lmk this number isn't set in stone

Any help is appreciated thanks

Maybe get this and another monitor...

Vid card is twice as fast as the one you have.

I'd probably wait till next year for the rest. Use the change to get a 2nd monitor.

It would really help to know what games you play, or what you actually do with your comp.

You should be fine with just a gtx 1070 and an SSD, till the next gen stuff comes out. Just get those two things and maybe a 2nd monitor.
Or maybe upgrade your peripherals or something.

I would think so. The new AMD CPUs are gonna be out soon. We'll have to see what they can do. Intel should be out withing the next year I would think.
New Nvidia vid cards will probably be out by Christmas. But the way the vid card prices are...I'd stick with a 1070, till the manufacturers get a handle on these bitcoin miners, buying them all up.

HDD
Buy that drive its not only 40$ cheaper but theres no performance difference between the one I linked and ghots.
The black claims to have a dual processor that offers twice the processing capability but fails to show it in benchmarks.

http://hdd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/WD-Blue-1TB-2012-vs-WD-Black-1TB-2013/1779vs1822

The difference is in the 2 vs 5 year warranty.
You could just buy 2 drives at that price point and both will still probably get 4 years easily.
If the data is sensitive go with the black just consider the bathtub curve applies to all drives though.

GPU
30$ less and the performance is the same.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SSD
I'd opt for larger SSD as most newer games can get quite large in size and a dedicated SSD for them will help dramatically
with performance and load times in many newer titles. Your current ssd is fine for the OS and programs so long as its in
good condition and isn't starting to degrade.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RAM
If you feel like you need more ram that would be best option for the price.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cooler
You don't have an after market cooler listed so I added a budget option for better temps but its not technically needed just within budget.

Rest you can dump into a nice monitor like the one I added, but ask others for recommendations on a monitor.
You won't benefit from the freesync but you can't afford a gysnc one I think in that budget range.

Are you having any actual issues running any of the games you play?
If not, that system is still plenty good for 1080p 60hz gaming (and probably above in most games)
I would recommend adding a HDD for more file storage, but other than that don't fix what's not broken.
If you want a nice second monitor, look into ultrawide monitors (primarily LG, Acer, Dell). They are the same aspect ratio as movies so you don't have black bars taking up space.

Just replace the graphis card. If you play demanding titles at high settings, you should get a 1070/1080 or vega 64 IMO.
