Games: path of exile
The rest aren't really worth mentioning

I just want something that is good quality and will last a few years but don't want to build my own this time. 16gb ram and i7 preferred. Not sure what brands are worthwhile. Live in US.

/e I should mention that you will be able to get a substantially better system if you do build yourself.

Yeah the one i have currently I built. I just rather spend more money and have warranty currently. I don't need some super high end graphics card like i did when I built my current.

Most parts come with a longer warranty than a pre-built.
Also, that graphics card isn't high end, it's extremely mid tier. An i7 will do literally nothing for you unless you do some type of workstation task (4k video editing, 3d modeling, etc). They are a gimick for gamers to grow their e-peen.

Not quite true

i7 works far better in multi threaded games (objective fact), they are not just to grow a gamer's e-peen or for professional work. Depends on what games wampled is playing, if they are multi-threaded or not

He listed POE which has multi-threaded support. So an i7 would be ideal.

In almost every game out today, the GPU is the bottleneck far before the CPU is. Unless he you're gaming with a 1080+ or a Vega card, a Pentium is usually able to keep up...

You told him that a i7 won't be worth it, when he's playing Path of Exile, which is a multithreaded game. You are wrong.

Any Ryzen-based CPU will do. (Ryzen 3's by default are quad-core!)
