I'm not saying it can't or won't happen but it may require a big winning streak in case 4-7 seeds start to roll. Either way, the 76ers present a danger to just about anyone they might meet in the 1st round. I don't think this is the year they will make a splash and enter the 2nd round of the playoffs, but they're on course to do so soon.
Oh this is just the tip of the iceberg, I agree. They will make moves in Free Agency, and Colangelo plans to go after a big signing because the Sixers can add a max free agent to their existing roster. If nothing else, depth will be added and the team will improve in addition to our young pieces getting better as they enter their 2nd or 3rd season next year. Plus, we're hoping Fultz will be ready to go next season obviously.
Ultimately the starting lineup is great (easily one of the better starting units in the league), they have an elite defense (#3 on the season - #1 thus far in 2018), and a top 10 offense. The only thing lacking is firepower off the bench, which the signing of Belinelli helped quite a bit (17 points with three 3's in his debut last week).
Youth and inexperience will be the ultimate downfall, as they still can turn the ball over too often and make stupid mistakes down the stretch. Although they're improving a ton in those areas as they grow, so by playoffs they could really be feeling good.
Do I think they're actually going to win it all this year? No. But do I think they can make it to the 2nd round and be a really competitive team deep in the playoffs? Yes, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
