Do mercs get more damage from adding +strength?

is 1 strength = 1% damage or something? or does socketing their helm with +10 more strength do absolutely nothing to their damage?

info and source please? Anyone test this themselves? Before I go socketing stuff and using hel runes I thought I'd ask,

I'm really just trying to decide what jewel to put in my mercs hat. right now it's a 40%ed / 15%ias but the 15%ias does nothing because of the weapon type he uses.
so how can I maximize damage? 40%ed/what
thats all I'm trying to figure out.

maybe try a clean guilluame on your merc to test if strength increases damage. I believe it does. You could try a 40 ed 9 str jewel. I never seen one. good luck.

Found this old thread. They discuss max damage on barb. Which probably applies to merc damage too.

probably will not cut it (the current helm is p eth andys) unfortunately gface will not have enough ias (missing 5% even with a 15%ias jewel) or else i would certainly use it for the crushing blow.

I'm not aware of any weapon that does not benefit from +15ias.

Each point of strength provides +1% enhanced damage (this is added to other off-weapon sources, like Fortitude, Might...).

great yes after a little testing I see strength does add that 1%

my merc uses a great poleaxe so the attack frames increase with 20% more ias, getting 35% doesn't change anything and having only 15% would not be enough.
my merc does use fort
my merc does use might aura (nm offensive)

I know with 40/15max or 40/10min there is a bug that makes the jewels not give as much damage or something, so I am thinking a 40%ed/+9str jewel would give the most damage possible.
I'm posting here to see if anyone has already done this or knows whats up

option 1; a 40%ed / 9 str jewel would add +49% damage

option 2; a 40%ed / 10 min jewel would add 40% damage to the maximum damage only and +10 min damage

options 3; a 40%ed/ +15 max jewel would add 40% damage to the minimum damage only and +15max dmg

Just looking for a really smart person to do the proper calculations because i'm not good. which option would give the best overall damage?

merc uses:
andys hat (+2 all skills [might]) and +20% ias

With Great poleaxe, attack speed goes up from 13 frames (20% ias on helm) to 12 frames (35%ias on helm).

Use 40ed / 15ias jewel.

On Andariel helm, however, usual choice is 30fr/15ias.

use ias calc for ur merc

str adds ed 1:1


prolly best dmg for merc is still:

forti eth
guilliams 15-40
infinity cv/botd wp (yes infinity does insane amounts of dmg due to 40% cb which adds with guilliams 35% cb, those 2 together are absolute madness)

botd is also a good alternative



and the only ''better'' damage jewel would be 30 ed 60 ar 9 str 9 dex which exists on eu sc nl mass duped

since 9 str = 9 ed that makes it 39% ed 60 ar (+dex ar)

max dmg and ed doesnt work in helm since its bugged, best choice is getting a weapon where that 15 ias matters, use guilliams with 15-40 with a fortitude and an infinity


for a CV its 9 or 20 ias for a new bp for example, so u get like 3,33 with jab or so with 9 ias, which makes it quite efficient.

also the conviction aura from infinity lowers defense, ontop of the by far best dmg out of all weapons for a2 merc



BUT if you really wanna use a great poleaxe, a 120-45 could also be quite useful
