So I just got the game late last night. Wondering what heroes I should be running and who I should be avoiding.

Soldier: 76 is a solid hero to use while learning. He's a flexible all-rounder that can contribute on any map, any mode, any side. It also helps that his kit/abilities are easily understood by someone new to the game. He has a familiar-feeling assault rifle as his primary fire, with a burst-damage rocket launcher on a long cooldown as his alternate-fire. He can sprint (like a CoD character) and has a self-heal.

Junkrat is an area-of-effect grenadier, also relatively easy to understand. His grenades bounce off walls and have a generous radius of effect, so he's pretty forgiving for new players.

Mercy is a mechnically simple primary healer but with hidden complexity in her positioning and timing. She's a staple on almost every pro lineup and a welcome addition to any team. Put in some hours on her even if you don't plan to be a healer main because learning her weaknesses and strengths means you'll know how to protect her when she's your teammate, and how to kill her when she's your enemy.

Reinhardt is the quintessential primary tank and another good hero to spend some time on when learning the basics. His main role is to hold up an enormous transparent shield that your team can shoot through, but the enemy team can't. Avoid using his "Rocket Charge" ability most of the time though, as it will usually result in you being surrounded by enemies and leaving your team without your protection.

Avoid Genji, Widowmaker, Sombra, Tracer, McCree, Hanzo, Ana, and Doomfist. These heroes are generally mechanically complex, fragile, and unforgiving to play. I'd start experimenting with them once you have a sense for how the game works and start to learn which roles and styles fit your mindset.

Thanks for the response!

I’ve had some success with Junkrat, Bastion, Soldier, and surprisingly Widowmaker <—- been hitting some great shots with her.

Feel like I wanna learn Lucio as a healer, had a little success with him on some maps but also shit the bed on others. Also Mei, Tracer, Genji those are my lists to start getting the handle on

But I’ll def look into Mercy like you said

Thanks for the input !

Tracer and Genji - heroes with highest skill ceiling.

But any hero in this game is kinda easy to play but hard to master.

There are obviously some heroes that are better than others, but try out everyone and just play who you enjoy

every char, once mastered, can outplay every char!
thats why this game is so damn awesome!

tryout mccree!
bodyshot 70dmg/heady 140 (x2)
stun grenade 10dmg (=tracer is dead with stun/heady)
imo best char against that annoying tracer!

widow
body 120
headshot x2.5 -> 300 when fully charged (insane)

download the app oversumo, for a guide wich chars are weak against each others and keeping track of your skill development

e. ONLY widow has headshot multiplicator 2.5
every other char (so long they can headshot) x2

ana, awesome char!!
her nanoboost ulti gives a friendly chara more dmg output and less dmg input for a certain while
scoped - hitscan (hitscan is stuff like soldier/mccree/widow/bastion)
non scoped the "injection" has a fly time (you need to aim infront of the charas way to to)

genji
most fun to play ever!
you must invest at least 100hours gametime to actually understand him and succeed (popular hero, very fast picked)

Dont play junkrat!! most stupid char ever, only for non skilled/cant aim players!! fun to play, but a pain in the ass
