Hello,

Thanks in advance for reading my post!

These are my specs with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card. My computer will randomly freeze throughout the night. It'll usually only do it once, but typically every day. I have downloaded SpeedFan and have monitored the temperatures. They typically hover between 35-50 Celcius so I don't believe it's a matter of it overheating. I just installed new RAM into the PC today and it still froze. MOBO and CPU are roughly 4 years old - do you think that has anything to do with it?

Let me know if you need any additional information. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Get SPECCY here: http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download
...get the FREE version from the: Piriform Link
...Speccy is a really nice system hardware/temperature, information Utility.
...simply install it...and run the program...then post a screen shot of the main page of the program, when posting a problem/question on these forums.

Include power supply make/model, as well as case make/model.

It would also help to know which RAM you had, and what you installed.

/e I take it you didn't do the "upgrade" we recommended?

Screenshot here:

RAM: G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 RipjawsX Series

Power Supply: CORSAIR - CX-M Series 550W ATX12V

Case: NZXT Phantom 240

In regards to the upgrades, I had to use that extra money elsewhere so I will be upgrading in early January.

Might try CrystalDiskInfo on your SSD, to see if it checks good.

The RAM you picked isn't on Gskill's compatibility list, which may or may not mean anything. Hut there is no GBXL RAM at any speed on their list. https://www.gskill.com/en/configurator?manu=52&chip=42&model=1977

This is on their compatibility list: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/89mLrH/gskill-memory-f312800cl9d8gbsr

Motherboard was wimpy, when it was new, after 4 years, who knows.

Power supply should still be under warranty.

What does Event Viewer show for the errors, when you get a freeze? <---- Just type event viewer in the START > search box. The ones we care about are the Critical and the Error ones.

/e Just checked the AsRock Memory QVL, and there is no GBXL on there either. Still that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

SSD checks out.

ADATA - XPG V1.0 8GB is the RAM I had before.

Event Viewer just shows that the system was rebooted without cleanly shutting down.

Did you put the RAM in the 2nd and 4th slots, counting away to the right from the CPU?

I believe they're in 1 and 3, same as the old RAM

Try 2 and 4, they are also legal, and the time your motherboard was made...they were the recommended slots.
It will also help check out if maybe one or both of the 1 and 3 slots are going bad...aka tweaked a little.

With decent temps, something like screen freezing is usually associated with RAM.

/e You might also want to open a command prompt, as admin and type: sfc /scannow
There is a space tween the sfc and the /scannow.

This is Windows built in system file checker. It will make sure all your Windows files are as they should be.

Also, here is the Memory QVL for your motherboard. I don't see any Adata XPG RAM on there either. I'm not as familiar with ADATA model numbers as I am with Gskill. So you might want to check with the full Adata model number.

W/o the proper test equipment, I can only guess.

My guesses would be..

RAM issue
Motherboard issue
Power supply issue

In that order.

/e Might want to rush to that upgrade. :)

/ee I know this isn't all that helpful. If you have a spare $50, you might want to have it checked over in a reliable mom & pop computer shop?
