Thanks ahead of time for your insight! :)

My wife is a teacher.
She wants to use Photoshop and illustrator to make high quality handouts for her students.

Photoshop only seems to have a reoccurring pricing model which is a horrible pain.

1) can you buy a version of Photoshop/illustrator outright?
1a) it looks like monthly payments only now. Can you pay for one month and be done with it? Or is it an annual amount over monthly installments?

2) is there an alternative that I should consider since she's not a graphic designer and would be learning from scratch?
2a) how much is this alternative or is it free?

I was considering getting her some software for Christmas or even just suggesting a free alternative or something.
I am not in the know on graphic design though.

Your insight will help students learn in a more effective way! Thanks!

Gimp is a great alternative, and it's free: https://www.gimp.org/ Definitely worth considering.
I think the prices and available payment plans for Photoshop vary greatly depending on where you are from.

Hey man, again something i sell for work so i know a fair bit about the corporate side,

If she is buying for work she should be able to leverage a education discount thay still allows you to buy a perpetual license.

Adobe is moving thier model more and more to subscriptions. With a consumer subscription its a montly rate but an annual commit. If you want out early they will charge you half the remaining months.

If she just want to fiddle with it i think she can uninstall and get a refund within 14 days.
PM me if you got any questions!

As an alternative between "free" and "too expensive", I recommend Paint Shop Pro by Corel. It's almost as good as Photoshop and HELLA cheaper. Also, you just "buy it once" for your wife and she will have the license for life, none of this subscription bull****. You can check it out here:

GIMP is a good alternative and it is free. Pixlr is an online tool.
