Bitcoin...

Bitcoin is a worldwide cryptocurrency and digital payment system: called the first decentralized digital currency, as the system works without a central repository or single administrator. It was invented by an unknown person or group of people under the name Satoshi Nakamoto.

Here's just ONE reason why digital currency is a bad idea. The two guys who invented this back in 2009 are an unknown. If anything in this digital currency system turns out to be a bad thing. You lose. Not them...you.
Since the idea, method and authors are unknown...so is the system. No matter how many "proofs" are on the internet, you have no TRUE way of knowing if there's not some way ...to just pull the plug someday.

If one day it all goes kaput..who ya gonna call, who ya gonna blame. There is NO ONE backing this digital currency.
If you HAVE "lose-able" spare money, then you won't be risking anything. For everyone else...it's a major risk.

Throughout history there have been millions of get rich quick schemes. I think most of you know the results.

I don't want to argue about it, discuss it, etc. This is how I feel about it. Until there is someone or some institution backing this digital currency...it's nothing more than rolling the dice at Las Vegas.

Something tells me you don't really understand how bitcoin works.

Yeah, if no one honored bitcoin...it would cease.
That's all that's necessary to understand.

And that is just as likely as people refusing to honor usd.

I mean, I wouldn't be against having some bitcoin even though I have no idea how it works... I did the same thing when I bought fg for the first time right? I mean its useful kinda...

(But I would never visit the Red Room with it..... just saying if there is any FBI reading this post right now)

It's not necessarily a bubble, but it is a risk. The hype could be over any day, and then bitcoins will be back to $2 a piece.

$2 a BTC is very unlikely to happen at all. Especially from countries where people don't trust their own national banks/currencies, BTC looks like a safe, uncentralized investment. For me it was a fun risk to take back in 2013. I'm a long stay guy anyway. No day trading for me. Got some S&P 500, some EU Med/Smallcap and some bonds. In time I'll withdraw it when I get to buying a house.

@Data: Taking a bigger position would have been to large a risk for me then. Don't invest with what you can't afford to lose yadda yadda. A national poller here asked people if they had crypto and if they profited yet and about half have profited.

It's going to be outperforming your other investments for a long time so it's not too late for any of you guys to switch gears. Gold had been in a bubble for 10,000 years and bitcoin will too.

The tides of man flow back and forth. Glad to hear you caught a crest.

Seriously, where HAVE you been?

Its not regulated the same way fiat money is

Possibly a bubble, possibly the ultimate anti-bubble

Working lots, raising the family, enriching my mind, you know. I'm around 😂

It's backed by millions of people who are actively mining it with hardware that costs a lot of money and the electricity to run them. Don't worry about it, bitcoin will enrich you and your life regardless of how much you ignore it.
