The game is sold as single player. Multiplayer support is not guaranteed. Blizzard reserves the right to change or discontinue the online multiplayer at any time.
The game lost more than half it's remaining players in the 2008 ban wave and it was already declining then. If it surprises you that people aren't playing this game 17 years into it then you're naive. The list of online games that old with active communities is basically limited to tf2/StarCraft/RuneScape/neopets
Age of Empires 2 has a few thousand players. That is "dead"
Warlords Battlecry 2/3 has like 30 active players through IRC and discord. That is "dead"
Diablo 1 has 0 active players. That is "dead"
Halo 1 has a few aimbots playing from denmark. I don't think the owner of that pc even realizes the bots are still online. That is "dead"

Will you shut the fuck up? Crying "D2 is Dead" in multiple posts is completely false; literally on a Discord chat with 3 friends doing Hell MF runs right now.
You and your 3 friends don't make up for the hundreds of thousands of players the game has lost. It's still dead, has been for years
