People believe in God because it is a major part of their upbringing and culture, particularly in the U.S. which is the western country that immediately comes to mind when you think of an inability or unwillingness to leave children's stories behind.

Another question would be why would you want to believe in the abrahamic god on faith alone? It is abundantly clear that he is a callous and inept psychopath who condones and orders genocide, infanticide, racism, slavery etc...
