Looking for general game advice and advice on best/worst/most fun char.

ur first char will most likely always sucks due lack of game knowledge
just pick a class u think suits ur play style

aka witch/templar=caster mostly
shadow/duellist are melee/range

marauder are mostly playd melee expections are the case.

after u pickd ur class, u go in the poe forum class section, select ur choice
and have a look at some of the builds

if u found something that u deem worthy of ur playstyle u can link a few chocies here and try ask for opinions i guess
anyhow tl:dr pick any char lvl thrue the game do few maps, realize ur char sucks

and do a proper reroll with a solid build
by than u have some currency aswell to invest into ur second build

Awesome. Thanks for you advice. So much can't redo skills on a char? Have to make a new one if I want to change skill tree?
