My wife said she would love to have a convertible to drive to work in the summer. I have pretty much had one sicne I turned 16, but they have almost all been stick shift. She has driven before, but doesn't pay enough attention when she drives. So she gets the RPMs up and goes oh yea...... But doesn't struggle with first gear which is nice.

Just most of the stuff Ive seen has been stick shift, Minis, Bugs, Cheap M3s. She isn't a fan of Seebrings or G5 or w/e that Pontiac was.

What would you guys do? Make her learn, or just pay a little more for an Automatic so you don't have to listen to her bitch?

What year(s) are looking at?

In my honest opinion, if you're buying something for her, get what SHE wants.

I don't drive manual. As much as that's "frowned" upon, I LOVE using paddle shifters in my brz to the extent that I wouldn't want a car without them. It's a good compromise, and I use them 100% of the time. Not only that, but they also downshift (or you can do it yourself) when you're coming to a stop, which is nice for traffic.

Now if it's a car that you want to enjoy 50% of the time, you can ask if she would be willing to learn better technique for a manual.

Sounds like we are in a similar boat.

If you can keep my wife from burning the tires off from a dead stop, I'll find a tuner to rpm limit yours to 3k.

Good trade? lmk

I'm all over the board, $4k-$12k ideally. I'm still trying to get myself a new toy as well but trying not to sell my current car. But if I buy her one, I could use that whenever I'm bored to get me over the hill until I make my purchase.

I likst surprises, so I try to get her feedback, but I want to buy it and surprise her with it. Its something that wont be a DD, she commutes maybe 12 miles to work (6 each way) and I got her a new Rogue in 2015 for her birthday. Just want something that runs strong, and looks clean.

Get her an older mustang rag top, they are cheap and fun to drive. You can also easily get them in automatic, alot of the lx models came with them. My GT is a stick and I love it, except for traffic jams. You can get a nice fox body in your range, and maybe even snag up a little older one if you do some looking. For 12k around here cash money I can get a nice one easily.

I love the 99-04 Mustangs. Just most of the ones I find are beat to shit :( or $12k with 88k miles which imo is hella overpriced.
