Hello!

I'm building a PC for the first time.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3CB7NN
These are the parts I picked. Some pieces have slight changes cause of availability, but they're all compatible.

For my GPU, what benefits do I get from upgrading from a gtx 1060 to 1070?
My friend says that I should be able to play on max settings smoothly with a 1060 for my games. A 1070 would only be effective if I ran games on higher resolutions.
I don't know anything about this stuff and tried reading a bit, but there's just a lot of opinions. I need more opinions :^)

Games I'm playing:
CSGO
LoL
BDO

Resolutions I am on usually:
1440p
1080p

I don't replace parts or buy new pc's for at least 4 years. So I would like the gpu that can play new games as well.

Let me know, thank you!

Get a 1070. If you're on an inflexible budget, swap the i7 for an i5 and put that money toward the difference between a 1060 and 1070.

If you have a 7700k in your build, your goal is 1440p, and your gpu isn't a 1080 Ti already... then your build is unbalanced and needs fixed.

His linked build is a 7700k.
He wants to play at 1440p.
At 1440p, a 7700k is a waste of money unless you already have the best video card available because your video card will affect your framerate more than your processor will.
Therefore, unless he plans on getting a 1080 Ti... his build is unbalanced as long as a 7700k is there.

The cheapest combo of 7700k + z270 + appropriate cooler for overclocking (h100i v2) = $500 (after $15 rebate)

The combo of R5 1600 + decent B350 + appropriate cooler for overclocking (cryorig h7) = ~$310

That's near $200 you save and can put into your video card.
At 1440p, there will be < 5% FPS difference in performance between these processors in gaming.
That $200 can take a 1080 budget and push it into a 1080 Ti budget. You will see 20%+ increased FPS.
