The Nokian silica tires are amazing. All the state police use them here in Michigan. I have the Nokian A/T on my truck and its the best winter tire I ever had. It's not even like a rubber, its so soft and pliable comared to rubber, especially at low temps. The silica sand compound also grabs 1000 times better on ice.

Yeah from research it appears Nokian is better on snow/ice than the PA4's, but the PA4's are better on dry/wet cold roads.

I can't test drive using both sets of tires of course, but for my case in New Jersey, I'm not constantly driving nor will have to go out in the snow often to make good use of the Nokian R2's, so coming from a safety aspect, I think the PA4's would be the better choice?

You can get the 8 without studs tho
R2 is hard compound pretty much like pirelli, it wear out pretty fast
And from personnal experience i would stay away from michelin

Hard compounds last longer.

Softer compounds get hotter and wear faster than a hard compound.

However, I would NOT want a hard compound tire in the winter.

Somehow hard one wear faster, this apply only for winter tire tho

Why would you buy a hard compound winter tire though? Kind of defeats the purpose... Might as well just get a 4 season tire and be done with it.

All high end winter tires are hard, to keep the performance as close as summer tires

8 have those built in diamond studs and tbh you dont even hear them unless you go like 5 mph with the windows down
