Well overall power consumption, it will be on 24/7.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WfChzM
Made a few changes (the other motherboard only had 1 PCIE lane and that had to be used for GPU, so wouldn't be able to get additional expansion cards like Raid Controller or NIC.
Plus it only had 4 SATA Ports, while this one has 6. Also 4 dimm slots instead of 2 if i ever feel like upgrading to 32GB RAM.

Had to change the Case as well, Not sure if I wanna go with this case, but i like the box form and needs to have at least 6 3.5" internal bays.

Currently in contact with a seller about 5x used 3TB WD RED for 200$. They are 850days old tho.

power consumption always gets blown out of proportion considering most time prolly be sitting idle

and I'd stay far from 1.5, 3, and 5tb drives seems like those are always problem drives especially being that old

Gonna be looking for some dual xeon build used the next couple of days :)

ugh mostly 3tb's are getting sold tho.
still uncertain what raid configuration I should use. And if it software are fine or i do need a raid controller.
Software I think mdadm if i go with Linux or unraid for windows.

The ones with the best records it seems, are the ones with the even amount of TBs. Like 4TB, 6TB etc.

I'll keep my eyes out of some of those. Only seen 3 sellers so far and they all had 2 and 3TB. I wanna get at least a total of 15TB

Yeah.

Also need some advice on Raid 5, 6 or 10. Only tried raid 0 and 1. But going to use 4 or more HDD for a total of 12TB+ at some point.

My advice is good luck rebuilding a raid 5 when it fails.
You have like a 40% chance of failure when rebuilding with large drives.

I'd stick with raid 10.

Yeah would more be like a false security.
Feel like raid 10 is kinda expensive, when 50% goes as mirror.

Might just end up pooling it. And take the hit if one of the drives dies. Not like Movies and TV-Series are sensitive material.
Won't really take advantage of the extra speed from raid. The 1gbit network will most like be the bottleneck in this situation.

1 more member joined up on the plex server projekt. So the budget increased, so it's possible to get an ryzen 1700 + aftermarket cooler.
But still currently looking into dual xeon and regular intel build with hardware decoding from quick sync, this should be the new shit on the marked.

Correct wanna go for 3.9-4gz. Should give performance to another 1080p transcoding over stock.
