Long story short, their compiler detects what processor is being used, and if it's not Intel then instead of streamlining and finding the optimal path for data it will instead use the most basic route possible which is (usually) significantly slower. That's my understanding.
So basically Intel doesn't bother to optimize their compiler for processors that aren't their own.
I don't think they are obligated to. They also have nothing to gain by doing so so why would they? It's freeware.
Just avoid proprietary compilers in general.
