Haven't done a build in years and I've been have the itch to put something together again. Returning to school in August so now is a good time to start looking. Would like this machine to last a while and have future upgrade-ability. This will also double as the entertainment system in my bedroom (movies, etc.)

Last time I spent roughly $3000 on my build in 2011 and that was when dual 2GB video cards were like top of the line haha. Looking forward to see how much the game has changed since then.

Budget: $3000-$3500

More specific use (what games, what programs): Computer Information/Cyber Security Major so ill be using it for that, and getting back into gaming. None to list specifically just yet. (Any recommendations by the way?

Planned time until purchase: Near Future. Before August 15th.

Do you need an Operating System?: Yes

Do you have any specific preferred components?: No.

Do you need a sound or wireless card?: Yes to both.

Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: Open to either.

Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: Would like 2 monitors minimum. Keyboard and Mouse required.

Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): 87112. Albuquerque NM.

Thanks in advance guys. Appreciate the help.

I would get a Ducky Shine keyboard: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=111

As for mouse... w/e floats your boat.

For OS: Get Windows 10 Pro x64 ( If KINGUIN is still operational, get your product key there and then just DL Win 10 Pro x64 from Microsoft)

Thanks for the build. Much appreciated.

Looks like some good comparison from Intel to AMD.

I'm doing some research on my own, but am I right in assuming that Intel still trumps AMD? I've had one of each build, both were great machines.

Also I notice that you both used parts picker, is newegg not one of the preferred building sites anymore? This question is mostly just out of curiosity.

PCpartpicker is just a website that keeps track of the prices of computer parts. You still buy, from the listed vendor though.

the skylake-x and i9 are a disappointment, the lack of l3 cache causes it to bomb in a lot of benchmarks and workloads.
Even comparing the 10 core i9 vs the last gen 6900k's 8

Okay, so Intel dropped the ball on their most recent CPU. Never would have thought AMD would surpass them.

Oh right. I just noticed that it wasn't a website you can order from. That is pretty legit.

Right on. Thanks for your info.

So is now a safe time to purchase and build, or are their expected components coming out in the near future that would be worth waiting for?
