This is exactly why you have your firearms visable on your dash before they approach and you tell them you have one.

I wouldn't touch my gun to put it on the dash. I would inform the officer that I was carrying a firearm, that I have a permit, give the location on my body where I was carrying and ask the officer how he/she wanted me to proceed.

Yeah... never heard that before. I can't imagine a cop would want to see you moving a weapon at all.

I haven't been pulled over very often but from what I heard from the cops I talk to if they feel comfortable they'll say something like "you don't go for yours and I won't go for mine". If they feel uncomfortable with the situation they'll get you out of the car and disarm you. You have to go through some pretty extensive background checks to get a permit in my state and the cops here know that they are probably safe once they establish that your a permit holder.
