This is exactly why you have your firearms visable on your dash before they approach and you tell them you have one.
It's not shocking how fast it took place, the cop did exactly what he was trained to do in such a situation.
I wouldn't touch my gun to put it on the dash. I would inform the officer that I was carrying a firearm, that I have a permit, give the location on my body where I was carrying and ask the officer how he/she wanted me to proceed.
