I walked him through installation of some programs on ubuntu before. We Skyped and he paid me for my time. He isn't 'being shady'

Surely your vouch adds some validity but it's weight is up for interpretation.

I've already explained what seems odd. Not sure why that seems to be an issue.

By all means if nothing is out of place to you feel free to help him.

Here is a scenario:

Someone asks you for help over text message.
They reveal to you they have step by step instructions how to proceed.
Also they haven't tried anything.
But they would really just rather talk to you on the phone for help.

-

Nothing seems out of place there to you?

/edit

In thay scenario even if it was someone I knew and trusted it would seem odd to me.

Maybe there's are disconnect. What you are asking for is really easy. So if you are so sure you are going to run into trouble well....

I'm just shooting the shit. Its not as if this sub is hella active.

But the difference here is you run into problems when everyone is fine, not don't even attempt because fear of problems.

It's weird he wants to talk to someone directly. I didn't say it was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. He asked why I thought it was weird and I explained.
