A couple more GameCube pickups:

Blowout GameCube

An affordable Metroidvania on 6th Generation Consoles??
Yes, it is true.

This game has really flown under the radar to my surprise.
In an era where game franchises were being re-imagined in the 3D world, Blowout is a rare example of a side-scrolling Metroid-style game.
It was released as a budget title for PS2 and Gamecube (Maybe Xbox?) with little fanfare.
But seeing the renewed interest in these style games, I'm not sure why this game is never talked about.
If it was released as a modern Indy game, I think it would do pretty well!

Now, this game isn't amazing or anything.
But it is a short (~12 hours) metroidvania game that seems right up my alley.

I got it complete at a local game store for $5.
..This is the same store that sells Madden 06 for the same price lol
I'm always happy to get a budget game that is actually worth playing :)

Odama GameCube (Complete in Box)

This was kind of a random pickup, but I got a really good deal on it!

Odama is maybe the strangest game I now own.
I'm surprised it ever got a release outside of Japan.

It is a pinball game set in Feudal Japan with real-time strategy and voice commands through a microphone..
I don't really know if I could describe it well with words. lol

I think general reception about it is kind of poor.
I don't think the voice commands work particularly well, but they are crucial to the game.
It is also supposed to be incredibly difficult and frustrating.
But there is probably no other game quite like it and I admire the ambition.

The game itself is relatively inexpensive, but it is crucial to have the microphone and controller microphone clip that is bundled with it.
This copy is actually still sealed:

Of course, I will be opening it!

I'm not sure this will be my kind of game, but this is the type of thing I'm happy to pick up.
I don't think it will ever get a emulated re-release because it needs the microphone, so this is really the only way to play it!

Got it for only $18 on an online auction.
Why not, I say!

Thanks :)

Get out there and see what you can find! It is a great way to get exposed to some fun games you might not otherwise try. Finding a good deal can be a real thrill and anyone with a smart phone can figure out if what they find is worth picking up.

You never know what is out there!

Latest GameCube pickup from an online auction:

Wrestlemania X8
Big Mutha Truckers
NBA street Vol 2

Couldn't give two shits about Wrestling..
But I don't have this game yet so yay!

I've actually been keeping an eye out for a cheap copy of Big Mutha Truckers
I have fond memories of playing the arcade game as a kid.
At least, I think I do? I just remember playing a big rig racing game with a huge steering wheel and seat.
I genuinely enjoy racing games, especially those that emphasize fun over being a straight racing sim.
I doubt it will be anything great, but I will definitely give it a shot :)

Pretty stoked to finally have a copy of NBA street.
I had a lot of fun with those games back when they were new.
Haven't played one in a while, but bet I will get a lot of play time out of it.
Arcade sports games age much better than triple A sports series like Madden or 2k.
I often play NBA jam TE or NBA Hoopz when I have a quick 30 minutes to kill.
I will probably add this into the rotation.

Mario Party 4
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess

These two games are what got me to pick up this lot.

I really enjoy Mario Party, but rarely do I get a chance to play them couch co-op as they were intended :(
The MP games on the GameCube still fetch a pretty steep price.
I think there are four of them?? I only have 4 and 6 now.

Been waiting to pickup Twilight Princess on the GameCube to play it again
I beat it on the Wii around launch and devoured it.
Sadly, it didn't include the manual.
Oh well, I can't wait to revisit it after over 10 years!

Pikmin 2
Super Monkey Ball 2 (Greatest Hits)

Two amazing games.
But two games I already own!

These will go on the resale list to recoup some money!

I spent $105 on this lot.
A little steep, but $15 a game is hard to beat for some premium titles.
I think I can get about half of that back after selling Pikmin and SMB 2.
No complaints here :)

Money Spent: $2021
Total Sales: $2053
Profit: $32

Side note, I expect this blog to slow down a bit due to the caronavirus... :(
Most things in my town are shut down right now and it doesn't seem wise to hit up thrift stores.
I'm not even sure they are open?

I also do most of my sales online and I will probably stay clear of the post office for a little while until things cool down.
Kind of a bummer to put one of my favorite hobbies to the side for now.
On the bright side, I am really putting a dent into my backlog of games :)

I may do a post as a status update of my collection.
Maybe I will highlight some of my favorite games?
Who knows, depends on how bored I get with everything being shutdown.
Either way, stay safe ya'll!

Hi everyone!

I've been pretty bored cooped up in my house.
Haven't hit up any of my thrifting spots in a while since the world shut down.
I thought it would be a good time to do my yearly update of my collection.
Normally this would happen in May, but I have too much free time right now :)

Important note, this is not all of my collection.
This series of posts will include what I have amassed since this blog began (with my investment currently at +$32)
Although at this point, these games probably make up 90% of what I own! hah

It's been a busy year! The collection has really grown!
Here is what I've managed to get my hands on:

95 Nintendo GameCube Games

17 Nintendo Wii Games

39 Sega DreamCast games

13 Disc only Sega Saturn game, 1 Sega Genesis game

5 Playstation 1 games, 1 Playstation 3 games

Not pictured:
Sega Saturn Console
DreamCast Console
Nintendo Wii
Backwards Compatible Playstation 3 (was a gift)

Tetris Attack (GameBoy)
Tetris (GameBoy)

In total:
173 games
4 consoles

Pretty crazy to see it all laid out like this!
From last year, there has definitely been a huge boost to my GameCube library.
Still on my never-ending quest to collect every North American Game in the set
But I would be happy to get even halfway there! lol

Excited to see what I will come across in the next year!

Stay safe everyone~

Thanks!

Here are some games I would love to have:

Viewtiful Joe (GameCube)
Warioware Inc (GameCube)
Beyond Good and Evil (GameCube)
Ikaruga (GameCube)
Dark Savior (Sega Saturn)
Space Channel 5 (Dreamcast)

Just to name a few..

Depending on how long the stay at home orders last I might break the bank and get something expensive like skies of Arcadia legends or shining force 3 just to kill some time :)

First new pickup in a while!

There are no garage sales to go to and all the thrift stores remained closed.
Not that I would like to go to one right now even if they were open..

I have been scouring online deals pretty regularly,
but a lot of the prices have been really inflated since the shutdown.
I guess everyone is wanting to play some retro games while stuck at home.
I don't blame them :)

Anyway, here is what I picked up:

Barnyard (GameCube)
Harry Potter Quidditch (GameCube)
Cabella's Big Game Hunter (GameCube)
007 Agent Under Fire (GameCube)

All pretty common games.
They are all new to me except for HP.

Don't think I will dive into Barnyard or Big Game Hunter anytime soon lol
But I am somewhat interested in 007.

I played a co-op 007 game with a friend pretty often as a kid,
but I have never been able to figure out which one it was lol
I have played a couple other FPS GameCube games recently that I enjoyed
It's not typically my go-to genre, but they are fun from time-to-time.

But I will keep an open mind about Agent Under Fire and give it a try :)
Been a long time since I have played anything 007.

Chicken Little (GameCube)
Midway Arcade Treasures 3 (GameCube)

Pretty happy to get a copy of MAT3.
It is a nice racing game collection with some gems like HydroThunder and San Francisco Rush 2049.

I already have HydroThunder on the Dreamcast and it is definitely the best version available.
Really I am just excited about San Francisco Rush.
I've almost bought the DreamCast version beforem but almost every DC game is more expensive than I would like lol
I do enjoy me some arcade racing though!

The disc is pretty crunched which is kind of a bummer.
But it works!

Many GameCube games are starting to have problems with peeling covers from what I have read..
Metal Gear Twin Snakes is a common one to have the problem
(fortunately my copy is still in good shape).
But I guess even physical media will die out eventually :(

Finally, the good stuff of the lot:

WarioWare Inc (GameCube)
Super Mario Strikers (GameCube)

Two games I have wanted for a long time!

WarioWare is unlike anything.
Very quirky, and a lot of quick minigame action.
It's kind of hard to explain.. it is a bunch of 15 second games in rapid succession.

I have only played it a little bit so far, but I look forward to more of it!

I picked up this lot a little over a week ago and Mario Strikers has been my go-to game ever since.
A really fun arcade soccer game.
I have already played it enough to kind of figure out how to cheese my way into beating the AI.
But I could see this game being a lot of fun couch co-op with someone else who is way into it.

Really happy to have it, even if it is missing the manual :(

I always prefer to have the manual, but I have become more relaxed in picking up games without it.
Often, they are 10-20% more expensive and while I like having it, I hardly ever look at them anyway lol

Anyway, got this lot for $85.

Not a crazy score, but a solid deal I would say!
