New Saturn Pickup:

Guardian Heroes Sega Saturn (Disc only)

As I am branching out into building my Saturn collection, I am seeking out disc only games.
Often, boxed games fetch a premium price and scares people off from getting into the Saturn.
Most game discs are 1/2 or sometimes 1/3 of their price complete in the long box.
Eventually, I'm going to invest some money in some aftermarket cases to store them.
I like having a game shelf to show off my collection, but at the end of the day I am buying these games to play them, not look at them.
It's just not worth an extra $100 to have it in the original case lol

Picked up this game for $58.
A nice little deal. CIB, it goes for ~$150.

Guardian Heroes is often considered one of the best Saturn games and was never re-released anywhere.
It's a side scrolling beat-em-up with some light RPG elements.

It definitely falls in that "hidden gem' category and is a much better game than the box art makes it seem.
It's also very anime heavy, which I wasn't really expecting.
But look how different the US box art is compared to the Japanese release:

That US box art is horrible lol

All things considered, I'm kind of neutral on this game.
To be fair, I'm not a big fan of beat-em-ups, but this game is definitely a good version of one.

My complaint is that while it tries to be a beat-em-up RPG hybrid, there are no save states.
On the surface, that is fine. But the game it is very text heavy and there is no way to skip through the dialogue.
Another problem is that it is a little too long. I've had to scrap my playthrough a couple times because I had less than an hour to play.
It's kind of a hard game too. It's easy to get overwhelmed by enemies and there is no space clearing moves.

Regardless, very happy to have this game in my collection.
While it has its faults, its a unique experience found nowhere else.
It's also a really impressive game for the mid-90's.

A couple new things, but not a thrift find:

I was back in my hometown earlier in September.
I decided to look through a storage closet to search for some old games.
Found a couple cool things:

Sony PSP (model 2000)
And a couple of games

I never really got into handhelds beyond the GameBoy Color.
Even today, I prefer playing portable games on my TV.
All the GBA/GB games I have I almost exclusively play on my Retron 5 instead of my SP.

A friend of mine had one and it really impressed me at the time.
Honestly, it doesn't look that bad even today!
I don't know though, I was too busy playing Diablo 2 around time to feel attached to it.
I kind of fell out of console gaming at that time.

I just don't have much nostalgia about it.
I picked up a few games but didn't play them much.
The only thing I even remember is the Tony Hawk game.

You can really tell what types of games I was into in early highschool

I'll likely sell the games but keep the system.
There are some neat exclusive PSP games.

Mickey Mania Sega Genesis
Tiny Toon Adventure Sega Gensis

Finding these really hit me in the feels.

These are some of the first video games I ever played.
I was playing Mickey Mania the other day and it was amazing how my memory of it came back!

Happy to have my original copies again!

I'll consider these free. If I bought them over 10 years ago and don't even remember what I paid.
They are free lol

Checked out a couple of pawn shops on my day off.
Found some decent pickups:

Pengo Atari 2600

This is my first 2600 pickup!
I don't even own a system.
Tech this age is more of a curiosity to me.
I think it's cool but I don't really care to buy one.
Most 2600 games are pretty worthless, but this one isn't.
I can't play it, but I hear it is one of the better games on the system and pretty uncommon.

Conflict Desert Storm Gamecube
Battlefront 2 PSP
God of War PSP

I'm still on my longterm quest to a complete Gamecube library.
I'm just going about it incredibly slowly lol
When I see a game complete and cheap though, I will snag it.

I don't think I've played this series before?
But there were so many military shooters back then it all kind of runs together.

I've also never played Battlefront 2 or God of War.
I've never even played their console counterparts..
I can't formulate much of an opinion on them, i hear they are generally good games though.
They aren't particularly valuable on their own, but at least they are triple A titles.
They were cheap and I may bundle them with my other PSP games.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection PS3

There are very few PS3 games I look out for but this is one of them.
This is an absolute killer collection of Genesis and arcade titles, I believe over 40 games?

Particularly interesting to me are Shining Force 2 and Phantasy Star IV.
I love the Phantasy Star RPG series, I have played 1 and 2 on the GBA Phantasy Star collection for GBA.
I always hear the 4th one is the best in the series but I've never had a copy.

I played through Shining Force on the Sega Smash Pack earlier this year and loved it!
One of the games I really want on the Saturn is Shining Force 3, but it is not cheap.
I will work my way through 2 until I save up some money lol

Got this lot for $10. Not a bad deal!

My Birthday was in late September.. my girlfriend bought me a Saturn game as a gift!
Well, really she let me pick a game out and she purchased it lol
She has never really been into video games but supports my weird hobby :)

Shining Wisdom Sega Saturn

I've become a big fan of the Shining series.
One of the reasons I wanted a Saturn is because there are a few Shining games exclusive to the console.
Shining Wisdom of course being one of those games!

It's a little different than the main series tactical RPGs.
Shining wisdom is an action adventure game that often gets described as being "Zelda-like".
It has a top down perspective and you solve puzzles that lead you through a series of dungeons.
In that way, it is very reminiscent of a Zelda game, but I wouldn't say it is a Zelda clone or anything.
It borrows a lot from the Shining world and has a bit of a unique personality.

The game is beautiful too.
The Saturn has a reputation for poor 3D games but the system is a real 2D powerhouse.
I love the sprite art in this game!

This is my first Working Designs game, but hopefully not my last!
Working Designs localized kind of obscure Japanese games for the North American market.
They didn't put out many games, but the ones they did they put a lot of detail in it.
The disc artwork is amazing, and their manuals usually have a holographic appearance.
I wish I had a complete copy, but CIB this game is just too expensive lol
I really appreciate their logo too, it has a lot of mid-90s appeal.

Very excited to play through this game! :)

I also got a $25 Goodwill gift card from a friend who knows I pick up a lot of games there.
It is a gift that keeps on giving really, as hopefully I can pick up some stuff to sell lol

I'm never sure how to include gift card stuff when tracking my purchase history here.
I've bought a couple things with an amazon gift card that I didn't post here..
I'll include it as credit in this thread though.
I'm sure no one really cares!

I've had kind of a dry spell lately.
I'm still hitting up my regular places but haven't found much.
Garage sale season is basically over too so it's been slim pickings.

Found another Xbox 360 controller from Goodwill.

Nothing too exciting, but always happy to find them to trade it.

This one was only $1. Probably because it was missing the battery pack

That's okay, I actually have a couple spare battery packs I've picked up over the years.

I forgot to pay with my Goodwill gift card... whatever! :)

Stopped by a pawn shop the other day..
Found a game worth picking up:

DBZ Supersonic Warrios 2 Nintendo DS

I don't have a DS and don't have much interest in collecting for the system.
But I am always happy to find a complete copy of a good game out in the wild|

Obviously, I have never played it...
But I watched a couple reviews online and people seem to enjoy it.
It still sells for a decent price too at ~$20-30 complete.

It's a 2D fighting game, a sequel to the GBA title..
I liked DBZ when I was a kid, but I have no interest in it today.
Personally, I think the game kind of looks like shit.
But what does my opinion really matter?
If someone likes it, good for them :)

Picked this up for $2.
Definitely worth that price, especially since it is still sealed!

My local game store had a sale recently.
I traded in a couple Xbox 360 controllers and picked up some good stuff!

Time Splitters 2 Gamecube

It's been a longggg time since I have played a Time Splitters game.
I never owned any of these games, but I have fond memories of the split screen multiplayer with friends.

I have been wanting to play an FPS game lately to mix things up.
It's a genre I played to death back in my 360 days.
But I don't play online games anymore so I haven't played many FPS's in the last couple years.
Never played the single player of Time Splitters 2, but I think it could be a nice FPS experience.

Wasn't exactly seeking this title out, but it was a nice clean and complete copy.
I want to start picking up more Gamecube titles again.
My library has grown quite a bit, I now own 65 titles!
It's crazy to think I have picked up ~30 Gamecube games in the last year alone!

Demolition Racer Dreamcast

I mostly picked up this game because it was like $5 and still sealed.
I am not a sealed collector, and will definitely be opening this game!
It's not like this game is exactly valuable or hard to find sealed..
There are a few copies brand new online right now for ~$10.
Something is just intriguing about buying a brand new game for a system that has been dead for almost 20 years now.

I hear Demolition Racer is a pretty fun arcade racer too.
Arcade racers are some of my favorite games so cool :)

Vagrant Story Playstation 1

Very random pickup for me.
I have cleared out a lot of my Playstation library, but I'm happy to hang on to some select games.

Vagrant Story is a Squaresoft cult classic and I believe the swansong of Square PS1 games.
It's unique in that there are no pre-rendered backgrounds or cutscenes.
Everything in the game is done with ingame polygonal graphics.
It definitely has that Playstation look.

I like JRPGs but often find myself not having the time to play through them.
Part of the reason I bought this game is because I hear it is on the shorter side for PS1 RPGs.

Besides, it's a game that is not too common to find at a thriftshop or garage sale.
It was there, it was cheap, and it was complete.
Happy to have it!

Got these 3 games for 2 traded in 360 controller + $8.
Pretty sweet deal if you ask me :)

First Goodwill score for quite a while:

Super Bubble Pop Gamecube

Not the greatest find, but always happy to find a complete Gamecube game for cheap!

It's a puzzle game..
Not that that is a bad thing, but it is kind of a bland one.
It is sort of bust-a-move in that it is a match 3 game with a ball shooting mechanic.

I probably won't be playing this game too often.
But hey, it's one more Gamecube game I don't own :)

Teen Titans Gamecube

I was never really a fan of Teen Titans.
But this game is surprisingly fun for a licensed game of a childrens cartoon.
It is an isometric brawler that is easy to pickup and play.

Hard to say that I would recommend it, but there are definitely worse games out there!

Got these 2 games for $6.
Not my best Goodwill find but I have had no luck there for a couple months now!
