Looking to buy a new car. I live in California and on the highways here if your car meets a certain standard you can drive in the carpool lane alone. I have a huge commute to work so this is enormous for me. The main cars I am looking at are the Toyota Prius Plug-in and the Hyundai Sonata.

Every review I find seems to rate the Hyundai Sonata as a better car than the Prius Plug-in, but the Sonata is significantly cheaper and newer. Can someone explain to me why this is? Are Hyundais just not good cars? I found a 2016 Sonata Certified Pre-owned with 43K miles for $14,000 while I find 2012 Prius Plug-ins with 50K miles for about the same price. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I feel this way as well, but my co-workers son has a Hyundai SUV with like 150k on it.

Everyone who I know who has bought one, likes them though. I dont recall any of them complaining about issues, but most are newer cars, like 2012+

My Co-Worker whos son has one, bought one for herself as well and loves it. Again, the SUV, and shes approaching 90k miles.

Our lot just got a 2012 sonata with 234k on the clock. Was a one owner and drove amazing for the miles. If you take care of them it will last.

Every review I am finding on the Hyundai Sonata is looking really good. Most people seem to like the Elantra more, but for what I am looking for in a car it seems great. Most of the issues with it and probably part of the cheap pricing is coming from all of the issues previous models had (I think the 2011 had SERIOUS issues with the engine).

Thank you all for the information!
