He's never been suspended. He does his job well, haters are just going to hate, until he's on your team. You don't realize how phenomenal the guy is until he plays for a team you support, much like most teams "hated" guys. I know because I didn't like him when he played on the Canucks because he did his job so damn well and he's such a good player.
Doesn't take away from the fact that if more players played like him we'd see echl quality hockey. I have no respect for a guy who makes his living skating around with his stick Around the waist of the opposing teams most talented player. Kassian or Maroon for example plays on the edge too and are hated, they lay big hits or get into your head with their mouths.
If Kessler relied on interfearance less I'd have more respect for him.
