I Currently use my LG G3.. and although it takes fairly Nice photo's.. I want a Camera that can capture amazing things as well as awesome night time photos that can see (or hopefully see) Stars Potentially.
What do you guys recommend or use for your stuff?
Thanks in Advance.
(if you use Instagram you can check out my stuff at @steverb93) and let me know what ya think? :)
All digital cameras work essentially in the same way. There is a sensor. There is a lens.
The lens controls the way the light reaches the sensor. A lens will control the amount of light that reaches the sensor in a given amount of time, the perspective (zoom), and the depth of field (blurry background effect, more or less of it).
The sensor is essentially what records the information. The larger the sensor, the better it will perform in low light. A camera like the LG G3 has a very small sensor, much like any smartphone.
I just went over some very simple stuff, and there's lots more to say. But to go a little further: Better night-time photos can be taken in one of three different ways. One, get a lens that allows more light to reach the sensor (but this isn't always enough, and you'll have to shoot at a fast aperture). Two, get a camera with a large sensor (this means you can shoot at a higher ISO, but usually you'll need a good lens to go with it). Or three, shoot long exposure (but this only works for certain kinds of shots).
Usually if you're taking a star photo, you want to balance your exposure length with the rotation of the earth (exposure length = how long you are taking the picture for before you've got what you've got, so you might be taking a 6 second picture). If you shoot for too long, the earth will have rotated just enough so that the starts aren't crisp and clear. If you shoot too short of a time, then you have to bump your ISO way up, and you end up with a noisy image. You will also need a tripod, and you'll likely want a remote trigger (to eliminate camera shake for a long exposure shot).
I shoot with a Nikon D750. It's a great camera. It is good for star photos. But it's also a $2000-ish camera, without a lens.
If you want to take amazing night-time photos, you'll need to do more research. You can't just pick up a camera that costs a little more and start snapping photos in the dark. You'll need to understand ISO, aperture, and shutter speed (the exposure triangle). Otherwise, you'll spend more, and you'll still be disappointed.
