So if you were to build in d2r now where there isnt gg rares available yet, would it look like the below?

cereb (socketed with?)
fort (in AP?)
SS (socketed with?)
botdz
dungos

bloodfists
hlords
raven

If you want to do general PvP and not specifically melee vs melee, you will need a good two hander, resistances, and bit of run speed. It kind of depends on whether there are rules or not where you are dueling. If there aren't, you can always do stuff like prebuff fade with treachery, for example, to get a res stack. You can also use dracs for lifetap, or even clegs for bm slow and knockback. Rabies/fury also tends to work better in open pvp.

That's a pretty solid guide for it.

Only thing I could add to that is 2 druid 30 run 20 res 2 sock cirlcet with some res stack jewels could come in handy.

And the key to winning in public duels is to get very comfortable with your shift key. You will use it to attack, swiping the air to hit people at the edge of your weapon range. You never want to namelock with fury against casters. And against hammerdins you need to learn where to be on screen to be in their hammer dead zone and to keep walking south and hitting shift every second or so to hit them as they try to get near you. More important than having the best gear is learning to hit people at range and just general shift key and angle positioning (the game is on a grid, angles matter).

Shael stormshield and shael Cerebus with one of your Ss grand charms being 12% FHR would work with Rends. Or with bloodfists you'd just need an ed/7fhr jewel in Cerb.

But yeah that's a solid basic build. Griefpb is better than BotDZ if it's allowed.

from that range chart, arent most weapons either 1-2 and some with 4(spears?)?

http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/weaponsandarmor.shtml#elite

Look at the weapon and the ranegeadder and add 2 for vs players. For example, Berserker Axe would be range 4 on the above image, Cryptic Axe would be 5, Great Poleaxe would be 6, and some area of effect things like frost nova could be up to range 9.

They can also be a lot of fun. Use two HotO on swap for BO and shapeshifting. Gores are less necessary since you have crit from mastery so your boots can be dedicated to resistances and FHR. I’d go with just 20 FHR probably so the Wolfhowl can be jeweled and you can use a 12% FHR max damage charm and Verds. The rest is all very similar. Shift targeting doesn’t really work the same with feral rage as with fury is the main problem. Trouble with hammers and smite more than fury, but more defense.
