Well in the beginning of July I'm gonna get my first SSD.
In aid of that I had to switch from Acronis True Image Home 2010 (backup software) to the 2016 version.

I plan to just use a current operating system backup I made from the HDD, and just restore it to the SSD. Unfortunately, Acronis before 2014 wouldn't align the partitions properly when restoring to a new SSD from a HDD backup.
Turns out Western Digital has a free version of Acronis available, if you happen to have WD hard drives anywhere in your computer. So I lucked out there.

On a side note, while researching backup solutions, I came across Aomei Backupper (free). It's free back up software, with no frills, but that works like a charm.
It's just a tad slower than Acronis, but otherwise works just as well.

Both programs also allow you to make a bootable CD or USB stick to access your backups, even when Windows won't boot.

As for the Western Digital version of Acronis... it is available at Western Digital's website. https://support-en.wd.com/app/products/product-detail/p/282#WD_downloads

Funny you mention SSD. There's one on sale for 35 bucks but it's m.2.
