Those signings killed a window, which is why Tanev and Makrstrom were let go.

Had the deadweight not been on the team they would have been kept and would be making a push for a deep playoff run.


In the long term it was the right decision. The team can't win right now and while Marky is an awesome goalie 6 years of term was too much based on what we have right now.

Well its not just 2 bad contracts for your team, its 5 bad contracts : Myers, Eriksson, Sutter, Roussel, Beagle

I agree Benning is a disaster but to be fair,

Eriksson is easily bad, but no one expected him to drop off the cliff as soon as he inked it. Especially when he had great chemistry with the Sedins in worlds, he failed as a player.

Roussel was a great contract for 3m, 28yr old 3rd liner with almost 0.5ppg pace? It's just shitty he blew his knee out.

Idk why people think Beagle is a terrible contract, he's definitely overpaid by ~1mil, but he's an "elite" 4th line center. That 1 mil overpayment isn't killing the team, he was brought into do specific things, and he actually overperformed the expectations and did even better than he was in Washington. Literally the opposite of Eriksson. But yeah, people just look at point totals and CF% as a gauge without context. He's basically the secondary guy out there being abused by Green being deployed tough situations when Horvat is resting/not available. So basically, he's playing 3c duties as a 4th liner and over exceeding cuz Gaudette is too nub. This fucker is outplaying Sutter despite being older. You rarely hear much about 4c's in the league, other than Beagle schooling kids on the dot and shit. Even if he gets outplayed and caved in by the superstars he won faceoff against, at least he's grinding them out and tiring them, instead of straight losing the draw and getting ezpk'd like Sutter or Gaudette.

Myers is overpaid, but Benning had no choice since Canucks defense was literally AHL tier other than Edler and Tanev for the longest time. Without Myers, it's another sbisa/larsen/MDZ/fringe NHL players playing top 4 minutes. I rather overpay for that tall fucker eating minutes than any of those fringe fucks feeding other teams like candy for 2m/3m.

Benn for 2m was also perceived as a decent contract for a depth physical guy, good for 15-20pts. Green just refuses to let him play his offhand where he can play his best.

Then add the Luongo penalty after the fact which is straight BS, i bet the NHL will alter and change the rules for preds when Weber retires and don't give them the 20+mil cap penalty
