The Gryba hit that I mentioned garnered a suspension but hit on Klesla a few days ago (similar hit, similar result) didn't get anything.

No. If you punch someone on the street and give them a black eye , maybe get fined some money and a lil in prison. If you punch someone and paralyze them you should get life.

Except hockey and life have different rules.
If I go to a public place and get in a scrap I don't have 5 minutes sitting down and get to go play again.
I get a fine and possibly jail time.

Okay.

But a legal hit that injures someone is fine. Thats just tough luck. Doing something illegal and injuring someone is completely different.

I agree.
But I'm in the thinking that the suspension should be based off of the illegal act itself, not the injury.
Basing it off injury leads to legal hits getting suspended as well because of player injuries.

If you swing your stick dangerously at somebody you deserve a suspension, injury or not. It should be punished the same amount.
Just because you DON'T injure somebody doesn't mean the act wasn't just as dangerous.
