You can't hook up an air conditioner backwards  :)
If your air conditioner is pushing 18000 BTU into your house, it is hooked up backwards, or experiencing a rather serious malfunction.

In a normal house...that's not likely but possible. However, if you mean it should be on left side of comp, I agree. However that is not possible in my apt. with NO insulation.

/e It's pushing 18K BTU because that's the size I ordered, and because the 8K BTU A/C I used to have, couldn't handle the no insulation factor.

I'd be very curious to know, how you think this is possible. W/e the temp is outside, my apt. is 10-15F hotter, due to no insulation in these 1908 walls ^^

The guy who built this house, which is now converted into 3 apts., has the street named after him ;)

An air conditioner is a heat pump that typically is used to move thermal energy (BTU) from inside your to, to outside your home. Your diagram shows it moving thermal energy into your home from outside your home (which is backwards).

BTU stands for British Thermal Unit, and is a measure of temperature changing ability. It applies to both hot and cold.

As for my pic...what color is 18,000 BTU written in?

A: Blue, why blue...cause blue is a cooler color...unless you're color blind, you should have figured that out.

Physics fail. BTU is energy, often used when dealing with thermal energy. 1 BTU = about 253 calories. Relabel your image as 4,554,000 calories and you will see how ridiculous it is.
