I just use flasks for mana and usually am killing enough to refill em,

mana doesn't recover until after cooldown but then it does.

I have made the mistake of running no regen with chaos dmg mod maps and those are critically bad.

ES just lowers and never regens, had a to waste a gorge yesterday when I made this mistake

Just use mana flasks. Unless you have extremely low totem damage, you should be able to easily juggle 1-3 mana flasks to recover mana as necessary.

Not quite. Half-regen reduces mana leech by 50%. No-regen does nothing to mana leech.
