Except Biden would be ACELA trying to form a coalition government with Conservative to stomp on Labor and Green.

Oddly enough australia has four major parties and this is pretty much the vote distribution if you merge acela and labor.

Yeah, I was about to say... the way Labor is characterized here, its leader should be Bernie, not Biden.

It's roughly the same in Germany as well, with two minor differences: our Greens have cannibalized some of the vote from acela and labor over the past two years when climate change has become a salient issue; and labor is split between a center-left and a far-left party.

It also describes the party landscape in France very well.

You do not know how the US election system works.

If there were 5 political parties, none would reach a majority of electoral votes to win the Presidency. The US Constitution clearly states a candidate needs a majority of electoral votes to become president. Biden wouldn't be negotiating anything. The negotiation would be among factions in the House and Senate to determine the President and Vice President. This would destroy the notion of direct election of president and veep.

Also, this system would IMMENSELY undermine faith and trust in the system as no winner would have more than a small fraction of popular support. This system would surely drive us into some kind of civil war and 80% of the public would be unhappy with the choice by default. This whole idea is a trainwreck.

However, the US actually DID one time have a multiple party system where several elements of small factions existed. This occurred in 1864. The result? The republican party under Lincoln simply absorbed several other small parties and created the National Union Party. That's right. Lincoln did NOT run as a republican in 1864. He ran and won as a Nation Union Party member. This party was an amalgamation of republicans, war democrats, and various unionist entities. After Lincoln won in 1864, the National Union Party fell apart and Lincoln returned to the GOP.

I would imagine that is how it would play out again. If we had those 5 parties, 3 of them would merge like 6 months before the election into a temporary majority party, sweep the elections, and then break apart again.

If we weren't in a pandemic I might agree. But for now its in bad taste and on top of that only appeals to the online echo chamber.

I mean, is he trying to further alienate seniors? Because thats what it looks like lol
