7 is the max you can sign a player through FA that wasnt on your team the previous season
if he was on your team you can give him 8 years

something like that ...they must consider karlsson not from that team since they traded for him or something ? weird

I thought it was 8 years if it's the team that drafted you, every other scenario 7 max

i did say "something like that" that could be it

actually maybe not cuz if they are allowed to give him 8 after the deadline they still didnt draft him
